In 1858, the Virgin Mary appeared 18 times to Bernadette Soubirous. Since then, Lourdes keeps bringing together people from all continents, with different languages and cultures, willing to share stories, encounters and emotions.
At first a place of fraternity and spirituality, every night, from April to October, the Sanctuary holds a torchlight procession. A magical experience!
Lourdes is also a small Pyrenean town full of charm. Its fortified castle, built on a rocky peak and classified as a “historical monument”, overlooks the city and is now home to the Pyrenean museum.
A 100-year-old funicular funicular takes you to the summit of the Pic du Jer for stunning views of the city and the Pyrenees.
The lake of Lourdes also offers a wide range of outdoor activities for all : golfing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, paddle board and kayak.
Lourdes is also the departure point to discover the Pyrenees mountains to enjoy major tourist sites such as the Cirque de Gavarnie – a Unesco World Heritage Site, the Pic du Midi observatory and Cauterets-Pont d’Espagne where skiing and hiking prevail.
